Corporate travel insurance
Corporate travel, clearly understood.
When people travel for work, the business takes on their risk: a medical emergency overseas, a cancelled conference, equipment lost in transit. We help you understand how travel really works in your business, then decide which of that risk to insure, which to carry and which to reduce at the source, through travel policies, approvals and support.
The basics
What is corporate travel insurance?
Corporate travel insurance is a single annual policy for approved travellers on company business, within Australia or overseas, with any number of trips. Travellers can include directors, employees, contractors and consultants.
It differs from a leisure policy in practical ways:
- Cover applies automatically to approved travellers, so there is no need to buy a policy for each trip or person
- Limits reflect business needs, such as higher luggage and equipment values and cancellation costs
- Benefits suit a commercial setting, such as paying for a replacement traveller if someone falls ill
Cover
What it covers.
Corporate travel policies generally include:
- Overseas medical expenses and emergency evacuation
- Baggage and business equipment that is lost, stolen or damaged
- Trip cancellation and disruption, including non-refundable flights, accommodation and conference fees
- Personal liability if a traveller injures someone or damages property while on company business
- Rental vehicle excess
- 24/7 emergency assistance
- Specialist cover such as kidnap, ransom and political evacuation, in rare circumstances
Not every event is covered. Common exclusions include medical conditions that were not declared to the insurer, travel to destinations the government advises against, and activities or extensions that were not approved.
Getting it right
Four decisions that shape your cover.
Who travels?
Employees, directors, contractors, consultants and sometimes prospective hires can be added, but each needs to be confirmed against the policy.
Where, and for how long?
Destinations, trip frequency and duration drive both the risk and the cost, and some places need special arrangements.
What are they carrying?
Laptops, specialist equipment and samples may exceed standard luggage limits and need their own cover.
What happens when something goes wrong?
Access to medical care, evacuation and emergency assistance matters most in the first hours, so it needs to be understood before anyone travels.
Questions
Common questions.
What affects the cost?
The amount of travel, the destinations, the mix of travellers and the limits you choose. We do not quote before we understand how travel works in your business.
Does cover extend to private days added to a trip?
Many policies allow some private time around a business trip, but conditions apply, so we check your policy.
Can contractors and others be covered?
People who travel on the business’s behalf can generally be added, but each category needs to be confirmed in the policy.
Our advice
How Contega approaches corporate travel.
Our advice begins with how your people actually travel: where they go, how often, what they carry and who approves it. From there we work out the limits and extensions that fit.
Where practice can be strengthened, we say so. Clear travel approval rules and briefings for higher-risk destinations reduce the chance of a claim, and they support your duty of care to your people.
Insurance is one part of the solution. We help you weigh what to transfer to an insurer, what to carry and what to reduce through better practice, then arrange the cover you choose.
If something does go wrong, we stay alongside you from the first notification.
